World Oldest Man "Jiroemon Kimura" Dies Aged 116 years

The world's oldest person and the oldest man ever to have lived "Jiroemon Kimura" has died of natural causes aged 116 years, media reported Wednesday.

The Japanese who was born in 1897, died in hospital early Wednesday morning, Kyodo News cited the local government as saying.

Kimura, from Kyotango in Kyoto Prefecture, was recognised by Guinness World Records as the world's oldest living person in December 2012 when a woman from the United States died at the age of 115.

On the 28th day of that month he broke another record, when he became the oldest man ever verified to have lived when he reached the age of 115 years and 253 days. I Think thats a record lost also.... RIP Man

Chinese baby 'fell into sewage pipe accidentally' - Mother Claims

        
        

The mother of the newborn baby boy flushed down a toilet in China watched in secret as rescuers plucked him alive from a sewer pipe.

The 22-year-old woman is believed to have raised the initial alarm but only confessed to police after they searched her rented room and found toys and blood-stained toilet paper, the Chinese state news agency reported.
According to BBC News,

The baby is currently recovering in hospital after being cut free from the pipe in Jinhua city on Saturday.

China's Zhezhong News reported that the 22-year old mother told police she could not afford an abortion. She was unmarried and kept her pregnancy secret, police told AFP news agency.

She said she tried to catch the baby after unexpectedly giving birth, but that he slipped into the sewer. She then alerted her landlord, according to state news agency Xinhua.

The mother did not think she could afford to look after the baby, so she did not tell anyone that the baby was hers, reports Xinhua. She went to work after he had been rescued and only admitted the baby was hers when confronted by police later.

Police are continuing to investigate whether the incident was an accident or the result of a deliberate act, reports Xinhua.

Xclusive: Newborn Baby Saved From Toilet Pipe In China

A newborn baby boy lodged in a sewage pipe directly beneath a toilet has been rescued by firefighters in eastern China.

Police are treating the case as attempted homicide and are looking for his parents. It has sparked anger on social media sites,

China's state broadcaster CCTV said the abandoned infant was found in the sewage pipe in a residential building in Jinhua in the wealthy coastal province of Zhejiang.

The two-day-old boy was discovered after residents of the building reported the sound of a baby crying, state television said.

Firefighters had to remove the pipe, reported to be 10cm (three inches) in diameter, and take it to a nearby hospital, where doctors carefully cut around it to rescue the baby inside, the report said.

They spent nearly an hour taking the tube apart piece by piece with pliers and saws and finally recovered the 5lb (2.3kg) boy, whose placenta was still attached.

State-run news site Zhejiang News said the child - named Baby No 59 from the number of his incubator - is safe and in a stable condition.

"Can these people be called human beings? The animal to human ratio among the grown-ups is rising inexorably."

Suspicious Substance Disrupts U.S. Consulate in China

Staff members at the United States Consulate in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou discovered a suspicious substance in an envelope on Monday, prompting the closing of some operations. The substance, which was found in a part of the consulate not open to the public, has yet to be identified.

No consulate workers have suffered any ill effects and no visitors are believed to have been exposed, said Nolan Barkhouse, a spokesman for the United States Embassy in Beijing. “The consulate has notified Chinese authorities and is maintaining close contact with them in case any assistance becomes necessary,” Mr. Barkhouse said.


The consulate was closed for visa interviews on Tuesday and will remain closed Wednesday pending an investigation. The consulate handles 121,000 visa applications annually and processes all immigrant visas for Chinese children adopted by American citizens.

Nigerian Court Jails Iranian 17 Years for Weapons Smuggling

                  

A Nigerian court sentenced Iranian Azim Aghajani to 17 years imprisonment for illegally importing arms into the West African country.

Judge Okechukwu Okeke of the Federal High Court in the commercial capital, Lagos, found Aghajani and a Nigerian collaborator Ali Abbas Jega guilty of four out five counts of smuggling, forgery and concealment. The jail terms will run together, with both men expected to serve five years, the maximum sentence on each of the counts, according to the judge.


The vessel used in the shipment and the weapons will be confiscated by the Nigerian government, Okeke ruled.

Nigerian security forces intercepted the shipment of rockets, grenades and mortars from Iran that were concealed in transport containers in October 2011. French shipping company CMA CGM SA said an Iranian company used one of its vessels to illegally transport the arms to Lagos after labeling them as “packages of glass wool and pallets of stone.”
